We know how impossible it can be to find specific sewing needles secondhand, so we’ve taken it on ourselves to organize and offer them in sane, share-the-love quantities. Logic: if our batch of 100 secondhand needles replaces demand for 10-20 batches of new ones (and all related packaging), that’s a win for zero waste (hint: that’s the logic behind our entire business model: scalable impact).

Ten Needle variety packs:
When you purchase this item, we’ll send you a sweet little paper packet made out of an old book page or map, with ten sewing needles tucked inside – the needles will be various sizes, intended to get you through mends and projects when you need them.

Five Needle specialty packs (no photos yet):
Fewer needles, intended to facilitate specific purposes. We’ll include a range of sizes, but no guarantees that there’ll be a specific size in any one order. At the time of this writing, we’ve set up the following options:

-Applique/Sharps
-Quilting/Betweens (tiny/small/fine) – also good for dainty lace work
-Beading
-Embroidery/Crewel
-Tapestry/Chenille/Cross-stitch (blunt & sharp mix)
-Self-threading/ez-thread (reduce demands on depth perception, vision, & fine motor skills)
-Standard darning/darners (blunt point, typically longer).

Quick tip: a few quick jabs into an emery sand strawberry (the ones you see attached to those tomato-style pincushions) or into a steel-wool pincushion will help keep your needles sharp between uses.

In order to ensure that this item is not put on a plane, we advertise this item as shipping via parcel select ground. It would be great if the USPS wouldn’t charge 10x more to ship via ground than on a plane for tiny items like these, but they don’t, and we’re sticking to our ethical guns on this one. That said, there are options that align with the sort of commerce behaviors that are better for the planet, anyway: if you’re within roughly 250 miles of Minneapolis (USPS zones 1-3), we’ll ship first class (USPS trucks items to Chicago, for example) and refund the shipping overage. We also offer free no-contact pick-up in Minneapolis proper (DM us to coordinate as you place an order). Also: we offer free ground shipping throughout the US with orders totaling $35 or more.

If high shipping costs bug you as much as they bug us, maybe ask other sellers how they’re being mindful of climate and environmental impact as they prep your orders. 😉
